Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See who are at least 18 years old. A practical Catholic is one who strives to live the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church, while accepting all of the teachings of the Church on matters of faith and morals. A candidate is initiated into the order and moves up through its ranks by taking degrees. Each degree explains one of the four principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.
